Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Through Portfolio for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design
At our university, we recognize that students may have acquired valuable knowledge and skills through life experiences. These experiences can be equivalent to the courses we offer. Our PLA option allows students to have their life experiences evaluated as educational experiences and credited toward their degree.
How It Works:
- Past Employment: If you’ve worked as a professional designer, your employment history can contribute to your credits.
- Designed Portfolio: Your professional design portfolio from your past employment as a designer shows your skills, creativity, and expertise. It demonstrates your ability to apply design principles effectively. You will submit a designed PDF of the work you have created as a full-time designer. The portfolio submitted should be between 5 and 15 separate projects. (5 professional pieces can equate to 3 credits, so if you have 15 professional pieces in your portfolio, they will equate to nine credits.)
- Resume Review: Please submit your resume so faculty can review your professional experience. Your resume should have contact information for your past or current supervisor.
- Employment Verification: To verify your past employment, we collaborate with employers to confirm your professional experience.
- Credit Range:
- Based on the evaluation of your prior learning, you can earn between 3 to 9 credits for your past employment, portfolio, resume review, and employment verification.
