YSU professor leads civic discussion at Lawrence County Action series

Cryshanna Jackson-Leftwich

Lawrence County Action recently hosted a session of its free Civics Refresher Series on April 16 featuring Cryshanna Jackson-Leftwich, a professor of politics and international relations at Youngstown State University.

The series, held in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, is designed to provide community members with a deeper understanding of foundational civic concepts, including the Constitution, the branches of the government and citizen participation.

Jackson-Leftwich presented on the Bill of Rights during the Thursday evening session at The Confluence in downtown New Castle. Her discussion explored the historical context and modern-day relevance of the first 10 amendments, emphasizing their role in protecting individual liberties and shaping civic life in the United States.

The Civics Refresher Series is organized by Lawrence County Action and features a lineup of legal and academic professionals addressing topics such as constitutional amendments, informed voting and local civic engagement. The April 16 session was part of a three-week spring series held April 8, 16 and 23, all free and open to the public.
