YSU Dana School of Music Professor announces recital

James UmbleThe Youngstown State University Dana School of Music announces a special recital to be performed by Dana professor and saxophonist James Umble, a two-time winner of the YSU Distinguished Professor in Teaching Award.

Accompanied by pianist Da-Eun Choi, Umble will perform a new piece of music written for saxophone and piano by New York City composer and jazz musician Patrick Zimmerli.

Zimmerli has written music for a number of fine performers, including jazz great Brad Mehldau and renowned flutist Jasmine Choi. This new work, written specifically for Umble, is a challenging piece that draws on both jazz and classical roots and language.

The recital will be held 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Entry is free and open to the public.
