Residential Housing Association

The Residential Housing Association (RHA) is the student voice between the YSUOffice of Housing & Residence Life and the students residing in YSU-affiliated housing. RHA seeks to inspire growth, leadership, and involvement of YSU students through the development and utilization of advocacy, programming, and campus pride and spirit.

Get Involved with RHA!

Being involved with RHA provides you with a wide range of experiences to help you
enhance your knowledge and skills for both short-term and long-term goals, including:

  • Gain valuable leadership experience transferrable to any industry
  • Plan exciting events for all YSU students
  • Serve as an advocate for students living on campus
  • Represent YSU and RHA at campus, state, regional, and national events and
    conferences

In exchange for their service and leadership, RHA Executive Board members are eligible to receive a stipend for up to 10-hours per week at a rate of $10.70 per hour. If you are interested in serving in any of the Executive Board positions below, please complete this Interest Form and someone from our team will connect with you. 

Students serving as an RHA Executive Board member must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student through YSU
  • Maintain an active occupancy contract with the YSU Office of Housing & Residence Life and maintain residence in a YSU-affiliated housing complex
  • Remain in good academic standing with YSU
  • Remain in good disciplinary standing with YSU, defined as non-probationary status or having no outstanding sanctions because of a finding of responsibility through the YSU Student Code of Conduct
  • Remain in good financial standing with the YSU and the YSU Office of Housing & Residence Life, defined as having no past due account balances or maintaining an active payment plan.

Students serving as an RHA Executive Board member are expected to:

  • Attend RHA-sponsored General Assembly meetings, Executive Board meetings, and events
  • Maintain a minimum of five (5) office hours per week
  • Attend all scheduled position and organization training sessions
  • Contribute to the development of meeting agendas and organization budgets
  • Serve as a member of the RHA Executive Board and fulfill all the responsibilities described under each position responsibilities
  • Serve as a positive representative of RHA and the YSU Office of Housing & Residence Life
  • Act in a manner that is consistent with the mission, philosophy, and values of the YSU Office of Housing & Residence Life and YSU
  • Provide training and resources for position successor at the end of the term in the position
  • Perform any other duties as necessary

The responsibilities of the President are:

  • Preside over all RHA-sponsored meetings, including both General Assembly and Executive Board meetings
  • Represent RHA to other campus organizations and committees by staying informed of campus events and being the residential student voice when appropriate
  • Represent RHA at YSU Office of Housing & Residence Life department meetings when appropriate
  • Represent RHA at state, regional, and/or national organizations and conferences
  • When necessary, coordinate the processes for recruitment and screening for Executive Board members as outlined in the Constitution
  • Uphold the Constitution and facilitate the amendment process as outlined in the Constitution
  • Serve as a budget authority in conjunction with the Business Administrator and Advisor(s)
  • Ensure that each Executive Board member is completing and upholding their positions’ responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Vice President & Campus Communications Coordinator are:

  • Perform the executive duties of the RHA President in that person’s absence
  • Coordinate all written resolutions for RHA and serve as parliamentarian to ensure fair and effective interpretations of the RHA Constitution and meeting procedures
  • Serve as a resource and administrator of the Hall Advisory Councils and associated Representatives
  • When necessary, coordinate the processes for recruitment and screening for Advisory Council Representative positions as outlined in the Constitution

The responsibilities of the Vice President & National Communications Coordinator are:

  • Represent RHA to affiliated external state, regional, and national organizations, including attendance at business meetings
  • In conjunction with the Advisor(s), coordinate and complete all necessary procedures for appropriate affiliation
  • Select, train, and lead the delegations to any student conferences or events
  • In conjunction with the Advisor(s), preside over all conference or event delegation meetings
  • Coordinate all award bids for state, regional, and national recognition

The responsibilities of the Business Administrator are:

  • Maintain a current record of the RHA financial transactions and allocated budget
  • Submit expenditure requests to the Director of Housing & Residence Life
  • In coordination with the Advisor(s), facilitate payment for approved expenditures
  • Maintain the current and historical records for RHA
  • In conjunction with the President, create the agenda for General Assembly and Executive Board meetings
  • Create and distribute minutes from any RHA-sponsored meetings, including both General Assembly and Executive Board meetings, within 48 hours after the meeting

The responsibilities of a Programs Chair are:

  • Organize and execute RHA-sponsored social, educational, and recognition events and activities
  • Serve as a representative for RHA involvement for collaborative events and RHA engagement at YSU campus events
  • Organize and facilitate regular engagement and recognition initiatives through RHA, including monthly campus, state, regional, and national recognition

In addition to RHA, each hall and house – Cafaro House, Kilcawley House, Lyden House, Wick House, and University Courtyards - has an Advisory Council that consists of executive members who work closely with RHA and the hall/house’s staff to program and advocate on behalf of the building's residents.

Available leadership positions with an Advisory Council can include (specific positions are determined by the individual Advisory Council):
